About The Position

The Reliability Technician V serves as a senior technical resource supporting manufacturing equipment reliability, asset performance, and operational continuity across complex electromechanical production systems. This role utilizes broad Production Equipment Repair and Maintenance expertise to help devise practical solutions to tasks that are typically not routine. The position supports executive leaders and internal teams in the Production Equipment Repair and Maintenance progression and end deliverables, while helping ensure repair and manufacturing solutions are accurate, timely, and high quality. This role performs advanced troubleshooting, predictive and preventive maintenance, equipment repair, reliability analysis, and continuous improvement activities while maintaining high standards of professionalism, efficiency, communication, discretion, and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Eight (8) or more years of college, trade, military training, or equivalent industrial maintenance experience in a technical field supporting electromechanical manufacturing systems, PLCs, pneumatics, and automated equipment.
  • Line qualified or PM qualified across multiple generational technologies (GTs), with demonstrated senior-level capability supporting complex manufacturing equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, install, adjust, and maintain industrial production equipment and related machinery.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulated manufacturing requirements, including FDA, ISO, GMP, safety, and quality expectations.
  • Ability to lead troubleshooting efforts, support reliability investigations, and communicate technical recommendations clearly to cross-functional partners.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor others and influence maintenance best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including stooping, walking, pulling, light lifting up to 23 lbs., grasping, hearing, visual acuity, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, and crawling.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and mastery in at least five (5) of the following areas: pneumatic systems, predictive maintenance technologies, servo system maintenance and troubleshooting, injection molding maintenance and troubleshooting, sterilizer operation and maintenance, vision systems, solvent hydration modules, dosing systems, robotic systems, heat seal systems, PLC troubleshooting, equipment controls, and automated manufacturing systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification, trade school completion, military technical training, associate degree, or equivalent advanced industrial maintenance training preferred.
  • Experience in an industrial maintenance or reliability role emphasizing electromechanical systems, PLCs, pneumatics, automated equipment, and regulated manufacturing operations preferred.
  • Experience leading complex troubleshooting efforts, reliability investigations, RCPS/A3 problem solving, or cross-functional equipment improvement activities preferred.
  • Experience supporting reliability-centered maintenance, preventive maintenance optimization, predictive maintenance programs, asset care initiatives, or continuous improvement projects preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt or Green Belt training preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple advanced equipment technologies, such as predictive maintenance, servo systems, injection molding, sterilizers, vision systems, robotics, heat seal systems, PLC troubleshooting, or automated manufacturing controls preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all requirements of the PM & Reliability Technician IV position.
  • Utilize broad Production Equipment Repair and Maintenance expertise to devise practical solutions for tasks that are typically not routine.
  • Serve as a senior technical subject matter expert for troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and reliability improvement of industrial production equipment.
  • Assist efforts to oversee and audit front-line tasks supporting the Production Equipment Repair and Maintenance function to ensure compliance, accuracy, timeliness, and quality of deliverables.
  • Perform advanced routine and non-routine maintenance activities to support equipment uptime, manufacturing readiness, and asset availability.
  • Help coordinate the technical implementation, modification, and ongoing monitoring of quality, safety, and efficiency for discrete production of unit-based items assembled from component parts.
  • Lead complex equipment diagnostics involving electromechanical systems, PLCs, servo systems, pneumatics, robotics, vision systems, dosing systems, molding systems, heat seal systems, sterilizers, and related production technologies.
  • Support key strategy sessions with Manufacturing Engineers to help develop repair and maintenance schematics for the rollout of new and improved repair and maintenance processes, tools, and equipment.
  • Apply Root Cause Problem Solving (RCPS), including A3 methodology, to eliminate recurring failures, improve equipment performance, and support sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support regular reviews of team operational control standards and testing equipment to assess conformance with engineering specifications, including test apparatus of raw materials, parts, components, finished items, and packaging.
  • Analyze maintenance history, downtime trends, failure modes, and predictive maintenance findings to recommend improvements to maintenance strategies and asset management practices.
  • Provide support for technical production line problems to minimize finished item rejection levels by monitoring gauges and other indicators of production equipment and machinery performance.
  • Support predictive maintenance technologies, including thermography, ultrasonics, vibration awareness, lubrication practices, and related inspection methods, documenting findings in accordance with site requirements.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Asset Care teams to support equipment reliability initiatives, process stability, and compliance expectations.
  • Support Operator Asset Care initiatives by coaching equipment owners, reinforcing operating discipline, and helping identify conditions that may affect equipment performance.
  • Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to Technician II through Technician V personnel.
  • Support maintenance planning, scheduling, spare parts identification, equipment documentation, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain required Johnson & Johnson site electrical safety qualifications and demonstrate safe work practices when performing troubleshooting and repair activities.
