About The Position

The reliability engineer acts as a cross-functional technical expert who works with several departments to ensure equipment reliability. He is responsible for the reliability, availability, and long-term performance of assets in two departments: Equipment (production machinery) and Buildings (installations and facilities). They are also responsible for maintenance project engineering for these two departments, within a framework of continuous improvement. They define and steer strategies, standards, and projects aimed at the sustainable improvement and optimization of equipment, in collaboration with union teams and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in industrial reliability.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanics, electricity, and instrumentation.
  • Experience in an automated manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in reliability analysis tools and methods, CMMS, etc.
  • Ability to work effectively in a unionized environment.
  • Industrial safety skills: In-depth knowledge of safety to ensure the safety of employees, machines, and facilities in all initiatives and operational activities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and analytical skills.
  • Bilingual (English/French) required due to the Montreal plant environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • All applicants must comply with the CGP (Controlled Goods Program).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of cleanroom environments (an asset), including best practices, standards, and manufacturing protocols specific to cleanrooms.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze recurring failures (RCA, 5 Whys, FMEA) and failure modes, effects, and criticality of machine components.
  • Analyze performance and incident data to identify root causes and propose solutions and improvements.
  • Define and optimize preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies.
  • Improve reliability indicators (OEE, Downtime: Unplanned downtime, Planned downtime, MTBF, MTTR, availability, etc.).
  • Recommend technical improvements and permanent fixes.
  • Standardize critical methods, practices, and components (equipment, parts, and systems that have a major impact on safety, reliability, quality, and continuity of operations).
  • Support technicians.
  • Participate in post-failure analyses and validate the effectiveness of corrective and preventive measures.
  • Participate in maintenance department meetings and, as needed, interdepartmental meetings to ensure alignment on actions, projects, and reliability.
  • Cover for the supervisor and planner in case of absence or occasional need.
  • Ensure the reliability of building systems (HVAC, compressed air, electricity, water treatment, air treatment systems, plumbing, and industrial utilities).
  • Ensure the optimization of facility and equipment performance.
  • Define, improve, and maintain infrastructure and facility maintenance plans.
  • Analyze breakdowns that impact production or compliance.
  • Recommend improvements aimed at stability, safety, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with union teams responsible for repairs and propose corrective, preventive, and improvement actions.
  • Be involved in and responsible for the engineering of maintenance projects as part of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Define technical solutions aimed at improving reliability and maintainability.
  • Develop technical concepts, risk analyses, and recommendations.
  • Ensure the technical coordination of projects with internal stakeholders, in particular: maintenance, production, and processes.
  • Provide cross-functional technical support for projects: specifications, implementation, modification, commissioning of machines and installations, etc.
  • Support project implementation.
