About The Position

HF Sinclair is seeking for a Reliability Specialist to conduct assignments and duties for the Reliability Department under limited supervision. Increases the overall reliability of the engineering discipline assets within the refinery through specialized fields of Electrical, Instrumentation and Rotating Equipment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight years of job-related experience is required
  • Knowledge of refinery operations and craft knowledge.
  • Intermediate level leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication.
  • Basic reading and writing skills and the ability to perform basic level mathematical calculations.
  • Proven interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter and safety sensitive.
  • Troubleshooting skills and ability to function effectively in a team atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Computer skills necessary to operate assigned maintenance system, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
  • Ability to lead and train a small group of employees.
  • Multi-tasking and team orientation skills.
  • Maintains and/or obtains higher levels of certification/training in related field

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Electrical, Instrumentation or Rotating Equipment depending on specialty.
  • Trade school or journeyman/craftsman training.

Responsibilities

  • Uses technical concepts in their field to perform projects, and assignments for the Reliability department to support improving plant reliability supporting both operations and maintenance with direct supervision and exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Identifies and reviews defects and performances issues including those noted by Operations and ODR Rounds prior to work order generation
  • Identifies (through technical monitoring and failure analysis), troubleshoots and resolves discipline specific equipment reliability issues, including those that don’t require work orders, or provide more clear instructions on work requests that do require Maintenance
  • Acts as a discipline specialist and liaison between Engineering and Maintenance
  • Provides support for capital project design/installation
  • Visits maintenance and/or field to track status and quality of work on critical and bad actor equipment work orders
  • Maintains calibration/maintenance for all testing and inspection equipment used to ascertain integrity
  • Reviews and follows up on excursions reported through the critical equipment health monitoring systems
  • Escalates issues that cannot be resolved
  • Conducts audits of third party maintenance to ensure suitability for manufacture and/or repair of HFC equipment
  • Conducts audits to ensure adequate spare parts are available for all critical equipment (motors, breakers, switchgear, etc.)
  • Completes audits equipment management systems (i.e. repair QA/QC, PM and PdM programs, repair documentation, etc.) and identify any opportunities for improvement
  • Participates in Corporate Equipment tech team meetings
  • Participates in daily Maintenance team meetings
  • Assists in equipment RCFAs
  • Assists and provides guidance for startup of critical equipment after installation or repairs. Participates in MOC/PSSR process
  • Assists the Maintenance Engineer with the development/improvement of PM work scopes for general purpose equipment
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
