About The Position

Reporting to Supervising Engineer, Reliability Engineering and Asset Management, the Reliability Engineer the main responsibilities are to identify and manage asset risks impacting business outcomes through implementing Reliability Engineering, Asset Management and Risk Management techniques within ENMAX Energy Corporation. This role implements Reliability Engineering techniques and Asset Management practices (aligned to ISO 55000) necessary to support EEC in balancing whole lifecycle risks, costs and levels of service goals necessary for the business unit to realize maximum asset value.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
  • Professional registration or eligible for immediate registration with APEGA
  • Minimum of two years of experience in plant engineering and/or reliability engineering within power generation or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of Information Technology as applied to the power generation industry
  • Proven experience collaborating effectively within multi-disciplinary teams of professional employees
  • Sound knowledge of maintenance and reliability principles and practices as well as implementation experience of these programs to improve these practices.
  • Understanding of long-term asset management principles including risk management, reliability principles, value assessment and continual improvement.
  • Sound knowledge of application of EAMS (MAXIMO) systems including management of data to accomplish improved reliability.
  • Ability to communicate across technical and business functions within ENMAX Energy.
  • Requires strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and the ability to effectively influence and support change.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong coordination and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Must be legal to work in Canada and requires the successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Two pieces of valid Government issued ID will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Good process understanding of power plant systems including combustion turbine technology, heat recovery/boiler operation, balance of plant equipment is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Apply, manage and continually improve EEC’s Reliability Engineering procedures (Asset Strategy Management (ASM), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Life Cycle Costing, Reliability Block Modelling, etc.) and software (Cordant Asset Strategy Management, Cordant Asset Health Management, MAXIMO, Isograph) to enhance asset portfolio reliability and performance while balancing the risk/benefits and Whole Lifecycle Costs in alignment with ENMAX strategic objectives.
  • Accountable for identifying asset portfolio risks and optimizing portfolio availability and reliability performance using Reliability Engineering tools and methods including, Criticality Analysis (CA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Hazard & Operability Studies (HAZOP), Reliability Availability Maintainability Studies (RAMS)and Asset Information Systems.
  • Accountable for the management and updating of the facility Asset Management Plans (AMP’s), which includes coordinating with multiple EEC stakeholders and subject matter experts for development, revision, approval and implementation.
  • Owns and develops the equipment/physical assets lifecycle models, strategies, and reporting processes.
  • Works closely with Business Operations and Capital Planning teams to ensure data inputs are aligned with the Generation lifecycle models and capital plans.
  • Collaborates with Generation Maintenance Managers and Supply Chain Management to optimize spare parts inventory levels to manage cost and risk.
  • Monitors the Preventative Maintenance system within the EAMS for its effectiveness in improving reliability and identify chronic problems and improvement opportunities to meet business objectives.
  • Prepares, modifies and authenticates drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, charts, and graphs as required per the Permit to Practice Standard.
  • Supports the improvement of Reliability Engineering, Risk Management and Asset Management related standards, policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Develops and refines equipment asset and failure hierarchies consistent with Generation asset coding and analysis standards.
