About The Position

Lilly is investing $4.5 billion to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. This facility combines research and manufacturing to optimize processes, increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact. The Reliability Engineer will enhance the reliability of process and utility equipment to meet manufacturing research requirements for capacity, dependability, quality, safety, environmental, and cost objectives. This role is crucial for supplying innovative medicines for clinical trials by ensuring critical equipment and systems perform optimally for cutting-edge pharmaceutical development. The engineer will provide support, direction, and expertise on equipment reliability, review current equipment performance to prevent issues, and implement reliability monitoring programs for maximum equipment availability. Staying current with technologies for optimal reliability, including analytical methodologies, predictive technologies, and best practices for equipment design, installation, operation, and servicing, is also a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or HS Diploma or Associate’s degree in a technical discipline with 10+ years of applicable industrial maintenance and reliability experience.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Reliability Engineer or Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional
  • Strong knowledge of Maximo/GMARS and Business Objects
  • Strong knowledge of FDA GMPs, ISO standards, deviation management and change controls
  • Knowledge of automation systems/software to facilitate data collection (e.g., data historians)
  • Level 1 or higher certifications in predictive technologies (e.g., vibration, thermography, oil analysis, motor current, and ultrasonic)
  • Training in RCM, FMEA, and/or RCFA facilitation
  • Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Knowledge of Weibull analysis, Life Cycle Cost analysis, JMP software, TPM practices

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support to maintenance and equipment owners.
  • Ensure the maintenance program is appropriate for reliable equipment operation.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the proper use of the CMMS for documenting equipment history.
  • Help ensure CMMS data accuracy and structure.
  • Determine spare parts identification and stocking strategy.
  • Ensure Job Plans are correct and contain sufficient detail.
  • Provide training to Maintenance personnel on new equipment, reliability principles, and techniques.
  • Mentor process engineers and others on equipment reliability principles and processes.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the Maintenance program.
  • Participate, raise, investigate, and complete HSE & Quality observation/deviations write-ups.
  • Analyze predictive & condition-based monitoring data to identify follow-up actions and prioritize implementation.
  • Utilize techniques and tools (RCA, RCM, failure analysis) to reduce equipment issues (downtime, deviations, health and safety, expenses).
  • Ensure local maintenance procedures align with Global Engineering Standards & Engineering Best Practices, including developing, reviewing, and owning Departmental SOPs.
  • Determine equipment criticality based on business requirements (quality, health and safety, mechanical integrity, manufacturing capacity, financial impact).
  • Ensure proper equipment criticality ranking is maintained in the CMMS.
  • Ensure the correct application of predictive maintenance technologies across the site, including proper equipment coverage, data interpretation, and assisting Process Engineers with corrective actions.
  • Own Lilly Medicine Foundry Preventative, Predictive, and Corrective Maintenance programs.
  • Interact with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), vendors, and regulatory bodies to stay updated on changes, improvements, or new regulations affecting equipment reliability.
