About The Position

SMS Equipment is looking for a Reliability Engineer in Training to provide technical support and maintenance of RAMP and Availability records while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across customer operations. Reporting to the Reliability Superintendent, this role plays a key part in availability reporting, technical analysis, and process optimization to support operational performance and customer outcomes.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of mechanical experience
  • Post‑secondary education in engineering (preferably mechanical), engineering technology, or a related field
  • Strong technical and analytical capability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and prepare clear, accurate reports.
  • Knowledge of OHSE legislation, regulations, and fleet inspection requirements.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous fleet management experience considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, validate, and analyze availability data from customers, site operators, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Input and manage raw and adjusted availability data within Komatsu RIM Care systems.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for availability rules, inclusions/exclusions, and program requirements.
  • Identify, analyze, and communicate technical availability issues and performance trends to internal teams, customers, and corporate stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports, reconcile records, support invoicing, and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Negotiate monthly availability results with customers and obtain required approvals.
  • Lead and support projects focused on availability improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Record and document major component change‑outs, ensuring compliance with applicable programs.
  • Develop, review, and maintain procedures, processes, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives by reviewing and improving processes related to mechanical, electrical, and welding activities.
  • Analyze component failures and support root cause investigations to improve reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, site operators, internal departments, and external consultants to resolve technical issues and implement improvements.
  • Coordinate factory technical training for technicians and customers as required.
