About The Position

Johnson Memorial Health is seeking a full-time Release of Information Specialist to join their team. This role involves managing requests for medical information, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and maintaining accurate records. The specialist will also be responsible for cash collection, analyzing medical records for completeness, scanning documents into the electronic medical record system, and identifying duplicate records. The position requires adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies, including blood and body substance precautions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least one year of work experience in a Medical Records Department or Physician Practice, working with maintenance and release of patient records.
  • Other clerical experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and processes incoming written, telephone and walk-in requests for medical information.
  • Assesses the appropriateness of releasing information according to policy and procedures.
  • Maintains Release of Information (ROI) log within 24 hours of receiving request.
  • Accurately maintains log of records released, in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Performs cash collection functions in accordance to policy for payment for medical records.
  • Analyzes medical records on a weekly basis for completeness & notifies providers of incomplete charts.
  • Scans documents (release of information requests and medical documents) into JMH’s electronic medical record system and assists with other activities associated with file scanning maintenance.
  • Processes requests and retrieves records for quality assessment/improvement activities.
  • Identifies and combines duplicate records.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and hospital policies and procedures including blood and body substance precautions.
