About The Position

The Release of Information (ROI) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and processing requests for disclosure of patient health information in accordance with federal and state laws, organizational policies, and established Medical Information Management procedures. The ROI Coordinator reviews and validates requests and authorizations, identifies the appropriate medical information for release, and ensures information is disclosed accurately, securely, and within required timeframes. The ROI Coordinator independently processes routine and complex requests for medical information from patients, healthcare providers, legal representatives, government agencies, insurance companies, and other authorized third-party requestors. Responsibilities may include processing patient access requests, continuity of care requests, subpoenas, court orders, legal requests, audits, insurance and payer requests, and other requests requiring research, analysis, and interpretation of disclosure requirements. The ROI Coordinator utilizes the electronic health record and other departmental systems to locate, review, prepare, and release medical information. The position investigates and resolves issues involving incomplete or invalid authorizations, unavailable documentation, incorrect patient information, disclosure restrictions, and other barriers to completing requests. The ROI Coordinator serves as an experienced departmental resource regarding Release of Information workflows and may provide guidance and training to staff regarding established procedures, systems, and request processing requirements. The position collaborates with patients, clinical departments, physicians, Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Information Technology, and other internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues related to medical record requests and disclosures. The ROI Coordinator supports departmental quality, productivity, and customer service standards and participates in workflow improvements, system changes, training initiatives, and special projects. The position may provide cross-coverage for other Medical Information Management functions as operational needs require.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of relevant experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret information.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise appropriate judgment when handling confidential and sensitive information.
