About The Position

Shermco Industries Canada Inc. is seeking a Relay Technician for a full-time, 1-year term assignment embedded at a client site in Albian, Northern Alberta. This role supports protection, control, relay testing, troubleshooting, and electrical power system maintenance activities. The technician will be responsible for testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting protective relay systems and related electrical equipment. This position requires strong technical knowledge of protection and control systems, safe work practices, and the ability to work effectively in an industrial site environment. The role follows a 7 days on/7 days off shift rotation, with travel arranged from Calgary or Edmonton. Eligible travel costs from Calgary or Edmonton to the client site are covered.

Requirements

  • Electrical, instrumentation, power systems, or protection and control background required.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting protective relays, control circuits, switchgear, breakers, transformers, and power distribution equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout, test procedures, and field documentation requirements.
  • Ability to work a 7/7 rotation at a client site in Albian, Alberta for the duration of the 1-year term.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet site access, pre-employment, drug and alcohol, and fit-for-duty requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • NETA certification, PSE, Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, Journeyperson Electrician ticket, or related technical certification is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in industrial, utility, oil and gas, mining, or heavy industrial electrical environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while embedded at a client location.

Responsibilities

  • Test, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain protective relays, controls, and associated electrical systems.
  • Perform relay calibration, functional testing, commissioning support, and power system troubleshooting.
  • Work with low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical equipment, including switchgear, breakers, transformers, and control systems.
  • Complete accurate field documentation, test reports, and service records in accordance with Shermco and client requirements.
  • Support planned maintenance, outage work, commissioning, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Follow all Shermco, client, site-specific, provincial, and federal safety requirements.
  • Work closely with client representatives, Shermco leadership, and site teams to ensure safe and reliable execution of work.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, PPE, and work areas in a clean, safe, and professional manner.
