About The Position

The Relationship Manager (RM) is responsible for both client-facing business development and portfolio management. This role is typically found in smaller lending teams where individuals handle both functions. For larger teams, this title may be for someone transitioning from Portfolio Management to Senior Relationship Management but not yet ready for the loan goal targets of a Senior RM. The position's function is to identify and bring in new loan clients and manage an existing assigned portfolio.

Requirements

  • U.S. College graduate with a major in related fields.
  • 7-10 years of commercial lending and banking experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
  • Strong loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
  • Previous underwriting or portfolio management experience in commercial real estate and construction lending.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Bank's credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to cross-sell products.
  • PC proficient.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently to structure loans and/or lines of credit.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high production and team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and accustomed to working with deadlines.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Bank personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese/or Vietnamese) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and bring new clients to the Bank, meeting specific new loan commitment/outstanding and deposit goals set annually.
  • Cross-sell Bank's other products and services.
  • Negotiate and structure primary loan terms with the client, circulating concept memos if needed before issuing term sheets/LOIs.
  • Work with underwriters, loan assistants, and support staff to prepare Credit Commitment Reports (CCR) for new loans, renewals, amendments, and annual reviews.
  • Present CCRs to the appropriate approval authorities, taking ultimate responsibility for the content.
  • Review loan documents for accuracy.
  • Manage the client experience during the loan closing process by working with loan assistants and support staff to ensure all necessary items are in process.
  • Monitor and manage the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio.
  • Review credits to ensure proper risk rating based on the Bank's system.
  • Identify, evaluate, and determine courses of action for potential credit quality issues to maximize credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss.
  • Ensure compliance with Bank, regulatory, and credit requirements, emphasizing customer service and adhering to client timeframes.
  • Assist with mentoring and coaching junior officers and loan staff.
