About The Position

This Relationship Manager role will support Nationwide's Corporate/Private Sector clients with their Retirement Solutions team, focusing on the West Coast, particularly California. The role involves managing small-sized retirement plans (average assets of $5-10M) with a focus on driving plan profitability, increasing efficiencies, and deepening relationships with key decision-makers, advisors, and consultants. The position requires strategic account management, collaboration with integrated service teams, and supporting new client acquisition by highlighting Nationwide's service model and benefits.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate studies in business or finance or related fields preferred.
  • FINRA 6, 63, 65 (or 7/66) required. Associates must obtain required licenses/registrations within the designated time period.
  • Five years in the financial services industry, with at least three years focused on retirement plans.
  • Experience managing relationships with plan sponsors and advisor/consultants of retirement plans.
  • Understanding of the retirement plan business and 401k and 403b markets.
  • Knowledge of products and related industry practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of ERISA, qualified plan design, recordkeeping, administration, and plan investments and account implementation.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements and quality standards.
  • Ability to establish and grow key relationships with top clients.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills to influence and negotiate.
  • Attention to detail, learning agility, time management, technical and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to drive successful results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to synthesize multiple data points to continually develop retention and growth strategies.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) are desirable.
  • Designations such as AIF and other Retirement Plan industry designations are strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, grow, and retain profitable relationships with plan sponsors, advisor/consultants, TPAs, and other service providers through proactive strategic account management.
  • Lead the integrated service team by coordinating home office support functions and additional resources.
  • Develop and execute a strategic business plan for each client, aligning client goals with Nationwide's objectives.
  • Support small plan sales acquisition by positioning the service model and its benefits.
  • Lead the client onboarding process, familiarizing clients with Nationwide tools and services.
  • Share the Nationwide story and drive adoption of capabilities and features to increase plan efficiency and improve client experience.
  • Develop and implement plan participant servicing strategies to drive engagement and retirement readiness.
  • Represent the client voice in product and service development and enhancements.
  • Reports to the Director of Relationship Management and does not have direct managerial responsibilities.
