About The Position

The Relationship Manager I is responsible for developing and managing relationships with small business clients within the Texas Commercial Banking market. This entry-level commercial banking role focuses on business development, client service, and the origination of smaller-dollar commercial credit opportunities, generally under $1 million. This role serves as a foundational position within the commercial banking career path, providing exposure to credit structuring, portfolio management, and relationship development. The Relationship Manager I partners closely with senior relationship managers, portfolio managers, and credit administration to build skills, drive production, and deliver a strong client experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field preferred
  • 0–3 years of experience in banking, financial services, or sales
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a client-focused mindset
  • Demonstrated interest in business development and sales activity
  • Basic understanding of financial statements, or ability to develop credit skills quickly
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across internal teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn internal banking systems
  • Maintain working knowledge of commercial banking products, policies, and regulatory requirements

Responsibilities

  • Develop new business relationships with small business clients through prospecting, networking, and referrals
  • Generate new loan, deposit, and fee income opportunities within assigned market areas
  • Execute a consistent calling and outreach strategy to build and maintain a qualified pipeline
  • Manage a portfolio of small business clients, ensuring satisfaction, retention, and relationship growth
  • Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships through additional products and services
  • Originate and manage commercial loans, generally under $3 million, including lines of credit, term loans, and owner-occupied real estate
  • Partner with Portfolio Managers and Credit to structure transactions and prepare credit requests
  • Develop working knowledge of financial statement analysis, cash flow, and underwriting fundamentals
  • Ensure all loans and client relationships adhere to credit policy, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Deliver responsive, timely service to clients and coordinate with internal partners for effective execution
  • Maintain accurate pipeline reporting, client records, and activity tracking
  • Monitor portfolio performance and escalate potential credit concerns as appropriate
  • Participate in community and professional organizations to build market presence and generate referral opportunities
  • Collaborate with internal partners including Treasury, Retail, and Credit Administration to deliver comprehensive banking solutions
