About The Position

Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA) is seeking a Reintegration Support Worker for the Otipaymsowin Reintegration Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. This full-time position focuses on providing culturally relevant and holistic support services to individuals aiming for a holistic lifestyle. The role involves collaborating with corrections, justice officials, stakeholders, the community, and government systems to address underlying issues that may hinder the successful reintegration of Indigenous offenders into the community. NCSA's mission is to promote the resilience of the Indigenous individual and family through programs and services grounded in reclaiming interconnectedness, reconciliation of relationships, and self-determination.

Requirements

  • In-depth experience and working knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, healing, and language.
  • Demonstrated understanding of historic trauma and the impact of colonization on Indigenous people.
  • Experience and applied working knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, ceremony, and healing.
  • Ability to seek out and build relationships with individuals, families, team members, community partners, and corrections stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of the operation of service systems such as Children’s Services, Justice, housing, income support, health, education, and community services.
  • Possess knowledge and work experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision with excellent time management skills.
  • Up-to-date criminal record check and ability to pass CSC security clearance in order to maintain employment.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, valid Alberta driver’s license with required liability insurance and confirmation of coverage for work and occasionally transport clients.

Responsibilities

  • Implement processes and procedures within the Reintegration Centre to better respond to the unique systemic and background factors which may have played a part in bringing the community member into the criminal cycle.
  • Maintain up-to-date information for parole and probation staff on individuals' progress and engagement in Wellness plans.
  • Contribute to the development of a supportive team environment with members of stakeholders, community agencies, and government service providers.
