Reinsurance Operations Manager

Liberty Mutual Insurance•Boston, MA
•$114,000 - $197,000

About The Position

Risk Financing sits at the center of how Liberty Mutual transfers risk to the reinsurance market, and its effectiveness depends on a large number of functions moving in step. This role exists to make that happen. As Reinsurance Operations Manager, you will be the connective tissue between Risk Financing and its key partner functions — Enterprise Risk Management, RI Operations, RI Accounting, Legal, Tax, LM Re and the broker community — ensuring that priorities are clearly set, actively managed and consistently executed across all of them. This is a role for someone who is energized by turning recurring friction into durable process. You will own the definition of the treaty lifecycle and its implementation across the team, contribute to the standard operating procedures that allow placement teams to act with confidence, and take a leading role in renewal preparation and management — including the treaty handover to downstream teams within agreed service levels. You will work across the full lifecycle, from market approval and reinsurer governance through binding, post-placement data delivery and in-force management. Much of the work involves shaping the agenda of teams you do not manage, so the ability to build credibility, communicate with clarity in writing and in person, and hold a position under senior scrutiny is central to success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in addition to 8+ years of relevant experience to include reinsurance operations, process improvement, accounting or audit
  • Substantial experience in reinsurance operations, treaty administration or a closely related insurance operations discipline
  • Advanced business operations knowledge to include understanding the function's value chain and market conditions
  • Advanced influencing, relationship management & presentation skills
  • Highly skilled at supporting change and imparting value within an organization
  • Strong project management skills as part of implementing business process changes
  • Advanced knowledge of available data sources, strengths and shortcomings
  • Solid knowledge of business intelligence tools
  • A demonstrated record of cross-functional coordination in a complex organization, including influencing teams outside your reporting line
  • Strong process design and documentation capability — the ability to take an undefined process, map it, and produce guidance others can follow without you present
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the judgement to adapt the same material for operational, financial and risk-and-controls audiences
  • Sound working knowledge of treaty structures, reinsurer governance and regulatory requirements affecting reinsurance transactions
  • Comfort operating with autonomy and precision on long-horizon initiatives alongside a high volume of ad hoc requests
  • A collaborative, service-oriented approach and the credibility to become the person stakeholders bring problems to for quick resolution

  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Displays strong research, problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • May also be relevant based on the particular needs of the position: Advanced knowledge of Excel and strong knowledge of database software
