About The Position

This position with APD will serve staff and management across the Agency. The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) is a 146 bed, coed, secure residential behavioral treatment program for adult or juvenile offenders located on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, FL. The primary goal of DDDP is to restore residents to competency or to determine incompetence for the foreseeable future. Residents are individuals who have been adjudicated by the courts as incompetent to proceed to trial and have significant behavioral issues. In addition to competency restoration, DDDP provides rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to residents, allowing for a smooth transition back into a non-secure residential or community setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited College or University with a major in an Allied Health Field, one of the Behavioral or Rehabilitative Sciences, Music Therapy, Music Education or Music, Physical Education with course work in Adaptive Physical Education, Industrial Arts Education, Vocational Education, Sociology, Trades and Arts Education, Leisure studies with course work in Therapeutic Recreation or Horticultural Therapy, or a closely related field; OR Four (4) years of professional experience providing educational, recreational, rehabilitative, therapeutic, counseling, court education, trial competency, or related services in a group or individual setting.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of one of the allied health field disciplines or one of the rehabilitative sciences.
  • Knowledge of basic supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and research methodologies.
  • Skilled in development and implementation of curriculum for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to oversee educational, vocational or rehabilitation therapy programs.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to write evaluation and progress reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and schedules Rehabilitation Therapists (RT) and Behavioral Program Specialists (BP Specs) in Rehab.
  • Reviews work products of Rehabilitation Therapists, including assessments, active treatment plans, and development of programs designed to meet goals and objectives.
  • Supervises and oversees the programming progress of all those assigned to RT caseloads to ensure training continuity both on and off the living unit as well as program integration as required by the Support Plan and Active Treatment Plan.
  • Responsible for personal direct contact caseload, including training and data collection. The caseload size, frequency and duration of involvement are at the discretion of supervisory staff.
  • Responsible for coordinating monthly active treatment reviews as required for submission to the Operations Manager - C.
  • Chairs Support Plans and quarterly reviews as required by supervisory staff.
  • Assists in planning and managing special events.
  • Attends meetings as required, including Support Plan Meetings, Active Treatment Meetings, Management Meetings, etc.
  • Develops and monitors management systems for tracking budget allocations, property and office supplies, and training materials. Also included here are those systems necessary to track staff training, staff meetings and other communication distribution tools.
  • Coordinates assignments so that there is equitable workload distribution among staff. This primarily concerns assessments for Support Plans and eventual caseload assignments.
  • Fills positions as required utilizing appropriate recruitment processes.
  • Ensures that RT and BPS staff are properly trained to perform their position description requirements, especially as changes occur. This includes coordinating routine staff training.
  • Regularly monitors programming space as needed to assure cleanliness and proper maintenance.
