About The Position

The Director of Rehab will serve as an advisor, trainer, educator and auditor and will assist and support the therapy team. The Director of Rehab is responsible for organizing and overseeing the general operations, and reviewing its operational systems, the maintenance of records and personnel to promote adequate level of care to facility residents. The Director of Rehab is responsible for ensuring that the therapy team complies with the policies and procedures of the facility. The Director of Rehab shall know the policies and procedures of the facility and be prepared to make recommendations to the Administrator, the Director of Nursing and appropriate facility staff. They will participate in the Forms Committee and Policy & Procedure Committee. They will assist in creating, revising, updating and implementing any policies and procedures or forms when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Must be a PT, OT, or SLP with active Texas state licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advisor, trainer, educator, and auditor to the therapy team.
  • Assist and support the therapy team.
  • Organize and oversee general operations of the rehabilitation department.
  • Review operational systems, maintenance of records, and personnel to ensure an adequate level of care for facility residents.
  • Ensure the therapy team complies with facility policies and procedures.
  • Know facility policies and procedures and make recommendations to the Administrator, Director of Nursing, and appropriate facility staff.
  • Participate in the Forms Committee and Policy & Procedure Committee.
  • Assist in creating, revising, updating, and implementing policies, procedures, or forms.
  • Promote communication within the facility in an interdisciplinary manner.
  • Meet with the Administrator upon entrance to communicate the purpose of each visit.
  • Communicate pertinent findings to the Administrator and therapy team throughout the day.
  • Meet with the Administrator, therapy team, or designee upon exiting to communicate relevant findings.
  • Follow up with the Administrator and therapy team after each visit on any agreed Plan of Corrections.
  • Observe staff performance during direct care activities (e.g., therapy sessions, ADLs, meal service).
  • Review consultant reports to promote consistency in the application of rules and regulations.
  • Review regulatory reports (e.g., 2567, Quality Monitoring reports, Quality Indicators).
  • Review facility policies and procedures to promote regulatory compliance.
  • Review facility reports (e.g., 24-hour nursing report, facility QA reports, staffing hours).
  • Review resident clinical records.
  • Provide training to the therapy staff, Directors of Nursing, the Administrator, and facility staff.
  • Research other training methods, materials, and resources.
  • Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Knock before entering a resident’s room.
  • Actively assist and participate in the enhancement of the lives of residents through patient care and census-building programs.
  • Actively assist and participate in the development and retention of staff through recruitment, training, and nurturing employees.
