About The Position

The Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center is a 100-bed, private-room facility recognized for its exemplary patient care experience for individuals facing challenging injuries. It provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services for both adult and pediatric patients with spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries. The Rehabilitation Assistant performs specialized work within the center, which may involve fabricating or adapting equipment for individual patient needs or providing driving instruction to handicapped patients in specially equipped vehicles. Employees functioning as Equipment Fabricators modify, repair, and construct necessary equipment for Physical and Occupational Therapy programs. Those serving as Driving Instructors train patients in operating specially outfitted vehicles and prepare them for written license examinations. This role requires familiarity with the challenges faced by patients with a wide range of physical handicaps and the ability to adapt work to meet patient needs, all under the guidance of Physical or Occupational Therapists.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
  • High School diploma is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients to and from treatment areas when needed.
  • Cleans clinic area he/she is assigned to after patients treatment is finished at the end of day according to departmental procedures.
  • Cleans all hydrocollators once a month.
  • Cleans the refrigerator in SCI and main clinic every Friday.
  • Takes and picks up food orders for patient's kitchen evaluation.
  • Assists in the fabrication of adaptive and assistive equipment, i.e. washing mitts, wheelchair gloves, safety belts, straps, etc.
  • Keeps the storage closet in order and stocked.
  • Assists the therapist in the treatment of patient during the day, i.e., assists in positioning patients, sets up/or remove equipment.
  • Assists with office duties as needed, i.e. answering phone, taking messages.
  • Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list.
  • Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
