Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, or a related clinical discipline required.
  • Active, unrestricted clinical license in the State of New York (PT, OT, or SLP) required at time of hire and must remain in good standing throughout employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management or supervisory experience in a rehabilitation or healthcare setting required.
  • Experience supervising multidisciplinary therapy staff in an acute care, hospital, skilled nursing, or outpatient setting.
  • Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care documentation and billing requirements for rehabilitation services.
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise, motivate, and develop staff.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems, therapy management platforms, and productivity reporting tools.
  • Solid working knowledge of therapy billing, CPT coding, and payer-specific documentation requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Joint Commission survey preparation and response in a rehabilitation or acute care setting.
  • Familiarity with specialty accreditation standards including Stroke Center, ACS Trauma, or Commission on Cancer requirements as they relate to rehabilitation services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily clinical operations of the rehabilitation department across all service lines, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor clinical quality indicators, patient outcomes, and productivity; escalate trends and implement department-level corrective actions as needed.
  • Monitor departmental volume, productivity, and key performance indicators; implement corrective actions within the department to address variances and escalate persistent or systemic trends to the AVP of Clinical Operations.
  • Ensure clinical documentation meets all payer, regulatory, and organizational requirements across all disciplines.
  • Manage outpatient scheduling and referral follow-up to maintain appropriate patient volumes and access.
  • Oversee front desk operations across all rehabilitation service areas, including point of service collection, cash handling procedures, scheduling support, patient registration, and patient intake processes.
  • Hire, supervise, and support a multidisciplinary team of therapy staff across all rehabilitation disciplines.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and address performance issues in accordance with HR policy.
  • Manage staffing schedules and workload assignments to ensure adequate coverage and equitable distribution.
  • Support staff professional development and ensure required competencies and credentials remain current.
  • Manage the departmental operating budget; monitor expenses and report variances to the AVP of Clinical Operations.
  • Work collaboratively with revenue cycle to support billing accuracy and denial resolution within the department.
  • Coordinate student affiliation placements, including liaison with Legal for affiliation agreements and management of all student onboarding.
  • Support equipment grant initiatives by coordinating vendor quotes and submitting required departmental documentation as requested.
  • Identify and escalate opportunities for workflow improvement within the department.
  • Ensure the department operates in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including CMS, Joint Commission.
  • Ensure rehabilitation services meet applicable standards in support of the organization's specialty accreditations and certifications, including Joint Commission Stroke Center and Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center (TSC) certification, ACS Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) verification, and Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation.
  • Maintain rehabilitation areas in survey-ready condition and respond to environment of care findings promptly.
  • Serve as the departmental contact during regulatory surveys and inspections.
  • Keep departmental policies, staff competency records, licensure, and certification documentation current and accurate.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, care conferences, and relevant organizational meetings as the rehabilitation services representative.
  • Collaborate with nursing, case management, and ancillary departments to support coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain working relationships with referring physicians and specialists to facilitate appropriate referrals and care transitions.
  • Report departmental performance, staffing updates, and operational issues to the AVP of Clinical Operations on a regular basis.
