About The Position

The Maine DBVI Rehabilitation Counselor I role supports elders with blindness and visual impairments and their families by identifying support needs and making service referrals to blindness professionals. This role aims to help individuals maintain their independence in their residences and communities. The Rehabilitation Counselor I provides consultation, service coordination, and connection to resources to address vision-related obstacles that interfere with independence. The position can be based out of Bangor, Augusta, Lewiston, or Portland offices.

Requirements

  • A four (4) year combination of training, experience, and/or education in vocational rehabilitation program development and implementation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals who are blind or have low vision and/or working with elders preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages an Independent Living caseload
  • Evaluates client information, services available, and program needs, develops a treatment plan, and identifies an implementation method.
  • Manages a client budget plan to ensure effective delivery of services and use of available funds.
  • Determines initial and continuing eligibility for services to adhere to program policies and standards.
  • Consults with blindness rehabilitation specialists, community agencies, medical specialists, and social service agencies on independent living rehabilitation to provide guidance, support, and assistance.
  • Provides administrative support for the Vocational Rehabilitation program
