About The Position

Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a part-time Rehab Assistant. This role involves assisting in the development and implementation of therapeutic interventions within the psychosocial treatment program. The assistant will provide open leisure programming available to all patients and on-unit programming on admissions units. Western State Hospital is a 302-bed Joint Commission/CMS-accredited psychiatric facility located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, serving adults with serious mental health needs and recognized for its Psychosocial Rehabilitation “Learning” programs. The hospital offers a modern clinical setting and a therapeutic environment, supported by highly qualified staff, and is situated in an attractive area with nearby cities offering dining, entertainment, and outdoor activities.

Requirements

Valid Virginia Driver's license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent
College courses in recreation, leisure, vocational, recreational therapy or occupational therapy field
Experience leading recreational activities
Experience working in mental health
Basic computer skills
Bilingual
Veteran or veteran spouse

Responsibilities

Conduct 4-6 hours of psychosocial rehabilitation interventions per week, according to approved schedules.
Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs for weekend activities on admission PCUs.
Ensures that interventions are appropriate to individual clients' ages, interests, and abilities as reflected by assessment data.
Supervise assigned areas and monitor the milieu appropriately.
Accountable for tracking patient attendance and participation for weekend programming on admission PCU.
Complete planning and evaluation forms related to programming.
Document incidents with the assistance of Rehab staff.
