About The Position

Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a part-time Rehab Assistant. This role involves assisting in the development and implementation of therapeutic interventions within the psychosocial treatment program, providing open leisure programming for all patients, and offering on-unit programming for admissions units. The hospital is a 302-bed Joint Commission/CMS-accredited psychiatric facility located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, serving adults with serious mental health needs and recognized for its Psychosocial Rehabilitation “Learning” programs. Requirements

• Valid Virginia Driver's license

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent
• College courses in recreation, leisure, vocational, recreational therapy or occupational therapy field
• Experience leading recreational activities
• Experience working in mental health
• Basic computer skills
• Bilingual
• Veteran or veteran spouse

Responsibilities

• Conduct 4-6 hours of psychosocial rehabilitation interventions per week, according to approved schedules.
• Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs for weekend activities on admission PCUs.
• Ensures that interventions are appropriate to individual clients' ages, interests, and abilities as reflected by assessment data.
• Supervise assigned areas and monitor the milieu appropriately.
• Accountable for tracking patient attendance and participation for weekend programming on admission PCU.
• Complete planning and evaluation forms related to programming.
• Document incidents with the assistance of Rehab staff.
