About The Position

Assists with routine patient care activities by setting up equipment and treatment area as directed by therapist. Treatment areas are prepared in advance. Correct equipment is obtained for patient treatment. Area and equipment are readily cleaned after completion of therapy. Patients are positioned and draped appropriately for treatment. Demonstrates safety awareness in all actions. Seeks assistance when needed. Takes responsibility to seek out yearly assessment of competencies, as outlined in policy and procedure. Reinforces use of assistive devices (i.e. reaches, shoehorns, etc.) during patient activities and group treatments. Organizes and prepares therapy gyms and storage closets daily to ensure smooth patient transitions. Assists with patient transfers and ambulation as directed by therapist. Transfer techniques are executed with competency and are consistent with gait training. Movement precautions and contraindications are followed. Reinforcement of previous instructions is supplied to the patient. Gait devices are adjusted correctly and/or issued as requested by therapist. Proper body mechanics and safety precautions are demonstrated, including use of gait belt at all times. Participates in patient transportation activities, utilizing various modes of transportation and handling various types of patient equipment. Transports patients on the unit to and from their rooms and clinical areas promptly, as assigned or scheduled. Demonstrates competency in transporting patients via wheelchair, ensuring leg rests and arm rests are adjusted and placed on the wheelchair properly. Patient equipment is transported to therapy with the patient and may include oxygen, IV pumps/poles, catheters, splints/braces, lap tray, sling, sliding board, prosthetic/orthotic devices, ambulatory devices, and any other special patient issued device/equipment. Therapists are made aware of patients arrival and departure. Demonstrates safe use of lift equipment. Assists with group treatment sessions. Understands purpose and utilization of group activities. Assists therapist, group leader by gathering scheduled patients for the group on time, in the designated location. Ensures all equipment and therapy notes needed for group are available at the start of the group. Assists in the Rehab Dining Program as directed by Dining Room Therapy Staff. Assists with group activities as assigned by group leader. Assists patients with personal needs during therapy. Minimizes interruption to therapy. Provides physical, emotional and safety needs. Attends to patient comfort before and after treatment. Always provides appropriate physical and emotional support. Respects patient modesty and dignity. Reinforces proper technique for transfer and self care training. Maintains ongoing communication with Supervisor and peers. Interacts with patients, family members, guests, and other contacts within and outside of the Hospital. Interactions reflect teamwork and promote a harmonious and cooperative work environment. Maintains a courteous and helpful manner when working with patients, staff, hospital personnel, and public via telephone and direct contact. Avoids responding emotionally or defensively. All communications are effective and timely. Immediate Supervisor is contacted, without delay, for assistance or notification of critical incidents and/or patient complaints. Schedules individual meeting with Supervisor on a monthly basis. Reacts to changes in patients physical and emotional condition. Responds to emergency situation to ensure safety of patients and staff. (Weight: 5.000%) Reacts immediately and effectively in emergency situations. Remains calm and follows directions of Supervisor. Demonstrates knowledge of all Code protocols. Reports unusual incidents or patient responses to Supervisor immediately. Incident reports are completed per Hospital standards. Participates in daily clinical operational duties as assigned. Makes copies of forms/schedules and other documents as requested. Posts patients daily therapy schedules on unit as needed. Files documentation accurately as assigned. Independently collects loaned equipment from patient s rooms prior to discharge; notifying supervisor of missing or damaged equipment in a timely manner. Handles incoming calls and monitors voice messages left for rehab office. Writes messages and gives to therapists. Directs calls to appropriate staff. Assists in other clerical duties in department, as needed. Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work environment. Assists in department preparations. Completes equipment maintenance and supply inventories. Conditions that are potentially harmful are attended to immediately. Work orders are appropriately requested. Wheelchair and wheelchair cushions are cleaned after each patient use and at discharge. Inventory and maintenance checks are completed per department schedules. Daily and monthly maintenance checks are performed and logs updated. Weekly cleaning and removal of outdated items from the therapy refrigerator. Monthly maintenance checks are performed and logs updated. Linen stock is maintained and areas stocked daily. Equipment is cleaned and maintained as required. Work area reflects neatness and organization at all times. Clinical Inventory is completed monthly, notifying the PAI Coordinator of missing or broken equipment in a timely manner. Participates in departmental educational activities. Displays initiative in promoting educational growth of self and department. Attends all pertinent meetings and educational activities without interfering with patient care. Follows all Department and HCH policies. Acts to facilitate the accomplishment of hospital goals and objectives as translated into department and area goals and objectives. Demonstrates awareness of department goals and acts to facilitate their accomplishment. Seeks to be informed by reading hospital publications, meeting minutes, and by attending and participating in general staff meetings. Complies with department and HCH standard practices. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience in patient care setting preferred.
