Position Summary The Regulatory & Labeling Compliance Manager enables innovation and accelerates launches by embedding regulatory compliance into the product development process. This role serves as a strategic partner to R&D, quality/food safety, marketing, and operations—balancing regulatory requirements with business objectives to bring compliant, market-ready bread to life. The position acts as a regulatory risk filter and solution advisor for new bread development, translating complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance. This role also monitors evolving industry regulations and proactively identifies opportunities to support compliant innovation and competitive product positioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or a related field required; advanced degree or certifications preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in food regulatory affairs and labeling compliance within CPG, including at least 2 years supporting innovation or new product development.
  • Strong knowledge of FDA, FSMA, USDA, NLEA, FALCPA, and applicable food labeling regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess regulatory risk and provide practical mitigation strategies.
  • Proven experience leading regulatory review of packaging artwork and ensuring labeling compliance.
  • Solid understanding of food manufacturing processes, ingredient functionality, and formulation practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to manage priorities in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.

Responsibilities

  • Partner cross-functionally with R&D, quality/food safety, marketing, operations, and commercialization teams to ensure formulations and processes meet regulatory requirements from concept through launch.
  • Identify and flag regulatory risks early (e.g., ingredient restrictions, claim limitations), preventing late-stage delays.
  • Provide guidance on emerging regulatory trends and identify compliant opportunities (e.g., allowable claims) that enhance product value.
  • Support scale-up and initial production runs, ensuring compliance in processing, labeling, and packaging.
  • Own and approve ingredient statements, allergen declarations, and Nutrition Facts Panels for all products.
  • Interpret and validate claims including (but not limited to) “whole grain,” “organic,” and “Non-GMO”.
  • Manage certification and claim submissions in alignment with product development timelines, including direct communication with regulatory and certifying bodies.
  • Provide regulatory guidance for entry into new markets or channels.
  • Lead regulatory review and approval of all packaging artwork prior to print, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure proper formatting, placement, and font size of required labeling elements.
  • Assess consumer-facing language for compliance risk and recommend appropriate alternatives.
  • Establish clear regulatory guardrails and frameworks to streamline artwork development and reduce rework.
  • Maintain version control and accuracy of all regulatory artwork inputs.
  • Review and evaluate supplier documentation, including specifications, Certificates of Analysis, and allergen statements.
  • Ensure all ingredients meet regulatory standards and are approved for intended use.
  • Assess and communicate sourcing-related regulatory risks.
  • Maintain accurate ingredient and formulation records to ensure traceability and data integrity.
  • Manage claim substantiation and certification records, updating as products evolve.
  • Develop and maintain finished product specification sheets.
  • Provide and maintain regulatory data required for customer and retailer portals.
  • Identify, escalate, and help mitigate regulatory risks across the product lifecycle.
  • Support investigations and corrective actions related to mislabeling, non-compliant claims, or packaging errors.
  • Assist with internal, customer, and regulatory audits as needed.
  • Serve as a point of contact with regulatory agencies when required.
