About The Position

The Counsel will support all divisions of EssilorLuxottica’s North American business, supporting the legal team with a focus on regulatory matters. This position is based in New York, New York. Requirements

  • JD or LLB from an accredited law school in Canada or the United States and excellent academic background
  • Licensed to practice law in New York or Canada
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with private law firm or corporate legal department (or a combination thereof)
  • Superior writing, communication, and research skills
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to interact with all levels and all lines of business and clients
  • Motivated, self-starter
  • Ability to work independently, yet collaborate effectively with other attorneys, paralegals, and business partners
  • Flexible and able to think on feet in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to adapt to constantly shifting priorities, and allocate resources appropriately
  • Outgoing and friendly personality, with a good sense of humor

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Canadian healthcare laws
  • Retail or Wholesale industry experience
  • Project management training or experience

Responsibilities

  • Advise and counsel internal clients on a wide range of regulatory issues facing the Company in Canada and the United States, such as federal healthcare laws, provincial and state laws governing optometry, opticianry, and ophthalmology, environmental health and safety, warranties, and FDA and Health Canada-related issues
  • Monitor proposed and enacted state/provincial and federal legislation and regulations to ensure compliant policies and practices
  • Identify and manage outside regulatory counsel and other advisors and manage risks of actual/threatened regulatory action or litigation in line with business unit initiatives and budgetary considerations
  • Review, interpret, and provide guidance with respect to key agreements
  • Perform research and other tasks to advise clients on legal obligations, risks, and potential liabilities
  • Support management of litigation involving regulatory issues or enforcement actions including responding to demand letters, subpoenas, and government inquiries, representing Company in administrative proceedings, conducting investigations, and negotiating resolution of disputes
  • Supervise work of paralegals
  • Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as needed
