About The Position

Clair is looking for a Regulatory Counsel to join their legal and compliance team. This is a high-impact role for a lawyer who wants to be at the center of a fast-growing fintech, advising on product development, supporting the compliance management system (CMS), and helping navigate an evolving regulatory landscape. The role involves working directly with the General Counsel and partnering cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, and Operations.

Requirements

  • J.D. and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 3+ years of regulatory legal experience, including time at a law firm, regulatory agency, financial institution, or in-house at a fintech or financial services company.
  • Substantive knowledge of consumer financial protection laws and regulations (e.g., TILA, EFTA, ECOA, UDAAP, state lending laws).
  • Experience advising on product or business initiatives in a regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with compliance management systems and their core components.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with state money transmission or lending licensing, partner bank relationships, or third-party risk management frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary legal advisor on product counseling matters, providing practical regulatory guidance on new product features, partnerships, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Advise on consumer financial protection laws, including UDAAP, fair lending, state licensing requirements (lending, money transmission), and other applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Support all aspects of the compliance management system (CMS), including policies and procedures, training, monitoring, and corrective action.
  • Review and approve customer-facing materials and marketing collateral for regulatory accuracy and required disclosures.
  • Assist with third-party and vendor risk management, including review of vendor contracts and oversight programs.
  • Support licensing portfolio management, including tracking deadlines, coordinating renewals, and preparing regulatory filings.
  • Assist with internal and external audits and regulatory examinations, including document preparation and response coordination.
  • Liaise with the Partner Bank on compliance-related matters and communicate effectively with Partner Bank stakeholders.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and translate legal changes into actionable guidance for internal teams.
