About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Regulatory Compliance Counsel with strong working knowledge of insurance licensing and regulatory compliance, corporate compliance, and state and federal privacy regulations to join our Agency Growth Team (Corporate team). In this position you will play a pivotal part in fostering growth and unleashing the potential of our people, by supporting the talent development strategies and success of our people that address our business needs and impact the overall company employment experience. This is a full-time remote position. There will be expected travel to team/company meetings and possibly to partner agency locations on an as needed basis.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the bar of at least one U.S. state.
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience (insurance industry preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience effectively leading, managing, and developing direct reports.
  • Ability to travel to partner agency locations or to team/department meetings as needed.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now and in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret evolving state and federal insurance regulations and licensing requirements (including ACA and Medicare legislative changes).
  • Draft, review, and update SOPs and internal policies to ensure company compliance.
  • Manage and respond to inquiries, audits, and investigations on behalf of the company and our partner agencies from state and federal regulatory authorities.
  • Coordinate with external counsel, as necessary, on compliance-related issues and keep senior management advised on all pending and threatened actions.
  • Assist with expansion of a corporate compliance program.
  • Provide legal counsel and guidance on corporate compliance matters across all business units, including the individual health unit (ACA and Medicare) ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations.
  • Manage periodic risk assessments and internal audits to identify and track potential compliance issues and develop mitigation strategies to reduce the companys exposure.
  • Draft and implement policies and procedures to strengthen the companys compliance framework.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., legal, IT, operations, etc.) and external counsel, as necessary, to ensure implementation of effective compliance programs and controls.
  • Serve as liaison with external licensing vendor and assist with monitoring and evaluating ongoing relationship.
  • Provide legal support for enterprise data privacy and information governance initiatives.
  • Assist in managing and mitigating risks associated with corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships with carriers, vendors and other third parties with a focus on compliance due diligence.
  • Conduct legal review of cross-functional contracts to support enterprise priorities and multi-department initiatives.
  • Lead, manage, and develop direct reports if and as required, ensuring effective performance, growth, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel or General Counsel.
