About The Position

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. This is a full-time, on-site position located in Columbus, OH. The Regulatory Affairs Advisor will develop, manage, and maintain positive business relationships with the Public Utility Commission, serving as a key liaison for FirstEnergy. This role involves communicating with external stakeholders, monitoring and analyzing regulatory matters, and assisting in developing and executing regulatory strategies. The advisor will coordinate regulatory activities with various business units and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and proper resolution of escalated complaints. A key aspect of this role is understanding the company’s objectives and their financial implications, and effectively communicating them to stakeholders, while staying current on all applicable laws, legislation, and policies impacting FirstEnergy. The position requires a high degree of integrity, honesty, and credibility, and involves representing FirstEnergy at industry meetings and conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or related field is required.
  • Minimum 10 years professional work experience required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word) and SAP.
  • Must be willing to travel for business to other company locations and the state capital for hearings, meetings and other activities, which may include overnight travel.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results and develop relationships.
  • Demonstrate analytical abilities, including problem solving and decision making.
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or CPA is a plus.
  • Rates or regulatory accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and maintain positive business relationships with the Public Utility Commission.
  • Service as a key liaison for FirstEnergy to the Public Utility Commission.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders on a wide range of issues.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on all regulatory matters at the Public Utility Commission and assist in making recommendations to management to support decision making.
  • Assist in developing and executing regulatory strategies that advance the goals of the company.
  • Coordinate regulatory activities with applicable FirstEnergy business units such as External Affairs, Legal, Rates, Operations, and Finance to ensure proper alignment with business objectives.
  • Coordinates cross-functional teams that address escalated complaints to the Public Utility Commission to ensure proper resolution.
  • Ability to understand the company’s objectives, their financial implications and be able to communicate them to stakeholders.
  • Understand and stay current on all applicable laws, pending legislation, administrative rules and policies that impact FirstEnergy.
  • Act with a high degree of integrity, honesty, and credibility when representing the company.
  • Communicate ideas related to regulatory, legislative, and policy opportunities to advance the company’s business objectives.
  • Represent FirstEnergy at industry meetings, conferences, and events.
