The Registration Specialist performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties to manage patient registration and patient financial obligations. This includes obtaining demographic, billing, and insurance information from patients, families, or legal guardians, and accurately entering it into the registration and billing systems for service and claim processing. The specialist is responsible for scanning insurance cards and photo identification, and providing patients with essential information regarding insurance, bill payments, and hospital procedures. Key responsibilities also involve completing managed care tasks such as obtaining pre-certification and authorizations, preparing and securing signatures for standard consent forms, notice of privacy practices, and other necessary registration paperwork. The role requires collecting deposits, co-payments, deductibles, and patient liability payments, documenting these payments, and providing receipts. Additionally, the specialist prepares armbands for patient identification, balances daily receipts and cash drawers, and follows up on accounts flagged by the system. They may initiate various screenings, obtain pertinent coverage information, complete appropriate paperwork, perform medical necessity checks, and complete Advanced Beneficiary Notices as needed. The specialist is also responsible for scheduling, rescheduling, or canceling patient appointments according to hospital workflows, and ensuring order completeness and validation against scheduled services.
