Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Customer service experience
  • 1 year Healthcare environment experience (e.g., hospital and/or physician office)
  • Computer and typing proficiency
  • Ability to combine compassion with strong professional skills
  • Ability to interact with a diverse customer base, including those seeking emergency services or treatment due to an accident or illness
  • Must successfully pass the required training in two attempts or less.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years registration/insurance verification in a health care setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Bilingual

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all aspects of patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling for patients.
  • Conducts patient interviews by phone and in-person to establish an account, gather demographic, insurance, and clinical information for appropriate patient scheduling and optimal financial clearance.
  • Collects out-of-pocket fees and completes accurate registration.
  • Interviews patients using open-ended questions to obtain pertinent demographic and insurance information.
  • Engages patients throughout the registration process to create a welcoming and positive patient experience.
  • Determines and collects patient financial liability and creates estimates.
  • Refers patients to financial resources for assistance with financial counseling.
  • Interprets physician orders for appropriate testing or admission criteria.
  • Scans insurance cards, scripts, patient identification, and all pertinent documentation including regulatory forms.
  • Performs insurance eligibility verification and executes payor requirements.
  • Secures signatures for timely reimbursement and ensures consents are signed specific to the service being rendered.
  • Reviews daily schedule for complications affecting department flow and confers with colleagues and physicians to anticipate and resolve problems.
  • Maintains compliance with registration accuracy.
