About The Position

The Registrar supports patient care by accurately capturing and verifying demographic and insurance information through in-person and telephone interactions. The role helps ensure a seamless registration process by scheduling procedures, obtaining necessary authorizations, and maintaining complete and organized patient records while providing exceptional customer service.

Requirements

0–2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions.
Knowledge of insurance verification and basic medical terminology.
Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and registration software.
Ability to appropriately manage sensitive and confidential information.
Effective interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Nice To Haves

Post-secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration.
0–2 years of experience in a customer service role.

Responsibilities

Interact with patients and their families to answer questions and provide courteous, timely assistance.
Regulate schedules according to procedure requirements, physician availability, and staffing needs.
Schedule patient procedures and pre-register scheduled patients by obtaining accurate demographic information.
Verify insurance eligibility using designated applications, capture accurate health insurance details, and obtain necessary service authorizations and verifications.
Collect and record patient financial responsibility estimates as applicable.
Communicate operative reports daily to appropriate physician offices.
Compile and organize registration documentation to ensure patient medical records are complete.
Collect applicable patient co-pays or deductibles and inform patients of their financial obligations.
Help patients understand insurance requirements and resolve insurance-related questions.
Document when a patient cannot sign consent authorization forms, or why a family member signs them, and obtain nursing sign-off when the patient is unable to sign.
Place an armband on each patient before they leave the department to ensure proper identification throughout their stay.
Answer and return phone calls, addressing questions professionally and courteously.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Comply with all policies and standards.
