About The Position

Acts as initial contact for patients presenting to the Bay Area Hospital. Performs registration functions, including updating demographics, verifying insurance coverage, obtaining consent signatures, discussing financial arrangements and collecting payments from patients.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain professional composure while interacting with patients in various physical and mental states, bodily fluids
  • Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
  • Demonstrates ability to work with various machines and equipment, including but not limited to: computers, answering service, radio paging system, telephone console, fax machine, back-up equipment, mobile base station, and laser printer as applicable to position
  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
  • Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to navigate and utilize web browsers, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other software applicable to position
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
  • Ability to respond quickly and think clearly in high pressure scenarios to meet the ever changing needs within the department
  • Types over 25 words per minute
  • One year experience in healthcare Patient Financial Services, Patient Access, customer service or related area (registration, finance, collections, customer service, medical office, or contract management) preferred
  • Requires working in various Bay Area Hospital registration locations as needed
  • Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking
  • Requires ability to maintain professional composure in noisy, hectic, high-stress, patient care environment
  • May be required to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Requires significant use of personal computer, phone and general office equipment
  • Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or telephone
  • May require off-site travel

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Prior customer service experience preferred
