About The Position

Jackson Purchase Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Registrar. This role is crucial in ensuring that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered accurately and in a timely manner into the registration system. The Registrar will also be responsible for distributing and explaining various forms and educational materials to patients and their families, gathering necessary information and documentation before or after admission, and addressing any concerns or questions. Effective communication with physicians' offices, nursing staff, and other relevant personnel is key to exchanging information and determining patient placement. Additionally, the Registrar will verify insurance benefits, obtain necessary precertifications or authorizations, and determine and accept required patient payments, or refer them to financial counselors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.
  • Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.
  • Meets with patient or patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation.
  • Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.
  • Communicates with admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.
  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary.
  • Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up.
