About The Position

Pinnacle Animal Hospital, formerly ABC Animal Hospital, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Suisun City team. The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, detail-oriented, and confident working in a fast-paced clinical environment. Applicants must have hands-on surgical experience, including anesthesia monitoring, patient preparation, recovery, and postoperative care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year of hands-on veterinary clinical experience required; two or more years preferred.
  • Surgical assisting and anesthesia-monitoring experience required.
  • Current California RVT license required for applicants applying as an RVT.
  • Experienced Veterinary Assistants with strong surgical skills are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong communication, organization, multitasking, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining a dependable member of the team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with IDEXX equipment and IDEXX Neo is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate care to every patient.
  • Obtain patient histories and accurately document medical information.
  • Safely restrain patients for examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform venipuncture, place IV catheters, collect samples, and run laboratory testing.
  • Perform microscopy, radiology, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications, treatments, and vaccines as directed by the veterinarian and permitted by law.
  • Assist with urgent care cases, emergencies, and euthanasia procedures.
  • Maintain complete and legally compliant medical records.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with doctors, team members, and clients.
  • Prepare patients, instruments, equipment, and the surgical suite for procedures.
  • Follow proper sanitation, aseptic, and sterile techniques.
  • Assist with surgical and dental procedures from patient preparation through recovery.
  • Set up anesthesia equipment and confirm that all monitoring devices are functioning properly.
  • Monitor heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, anesthetic depth, and other patient parameters.
  • Recognize changes in patient status and promptly communicate concerns to the veterinarian.
  • Assist with intubation, anesthesia induction, and other procedures as permitted by credentials and California law.
  • Monitor patients closely throughout recovery and provide postoperative care.
  • Maintain accurate anesthesia and surgical records.
  • Clean, wrap, sterilize, and properly store surgical instruments.
  • Maintain surgical supplies and inventory and report low or expired items promptly.
  • Ensure controlled substances are handled, documented, and stored according to clinic policy and legal requirements.
  • Maintain high ethical, medical, and professional standards.
  • Remain calm, focused, and efficient during stressful or emotionally difficult situations.
  • Demonstrate strong time-management skills and follow through on assigned responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate concerns directly and respectfully.
  • Provide constructive feedback to management and avoid workplace gossip or drama.
  • Keep exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and surgical spaces clean, stocked, and organized.
  • Follow all hospital protocols, safety procedures, and standard operating procedures.
  • Use clinic technology confidently, including Windows, IDEXX Neo, Gmail, and Google Drive.
  • Assist with phones, scheduling, and client communication when needed.
