About The Position

Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness is a trusted leader in children’s mental health across Southwestern Ontario, serving as the Lead Agency for Child and Youth Mental Health System planning in the region for over 60 years. As a registered charity and not-for-profit organization funded by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Vanier delivers culturally responsive, accessible mental health services to children, youth, and families. The Registered Social Worker (BSW) provides direct mental health services to children, youth, and their families within a multidisciplinary team environment. This role involves individual, family, and group therapy using various treatment modalities, with a focus on attachment-based, trauma-informed approaches, and brief counseling. The successful candidate will conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to implement child/youth/family-centered treatment plans to support positive mental health outcomes. Services will be provided in both London and Middlesex.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from an accredited university and a degree or diploma with a clinical focus or a certificate from a program with a focus on performing the controlled act of psychotherapy
  • Current Registration in good standing from the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
  • Experience working with children, youth, and families in a mental health setting
  • Knowledge of child and youth mental health, trauma-informed care, attachment theory, and brief therapeutic interventions
  • Training in a variety of treatment modalities, including a supervised practicum in one of the areas of child development or family development and functioning
  • Strong assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, and case management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and community skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Highly Proficient with Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Valid G level driver’s license in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle
  • 2 Step TB test

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual, family, and group brief psychotherapy to children, youth, and families experiencing mental health concerns
  • Conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessments
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates collaborative treatment plans using a child/youth/family-centred approach
  • Responds effectively to client crises which may require meeting with the child and family, consulting with the supervisor and referring client to other centers
  • Facilitates parent and children’s groups as required and completes appropriate documentation including evaluation measures
  • Conducts regular case conferences with all active clients to review treatment progress, treatment strategies and develop new goals with either a case conference team or a supervisor
  • Schedules and invites outside professionals to attend assessments, case conferences and therapy meetings as dictated by the needs of a family and as determined by the intensity of the therapy program
  • Records all treatment contacts including assessment summaries, case conference summaries, any telephone face–to–face contacts with family members and outside professionals, treatment review summaries, termination summaries, group, individual, and family therapy contacts in accordance with the case management manual and professional standards
  • Provides social support to individuals and/or groups including relationship building, life skills instruction, employment and tangible support and information and referral services
  • Participates as an active member of an interdisciplinary care team
