About The Position

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapy program.
Current Mississippi Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), or registry eligible with successful completion of the RRT examination within six months of employment.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
Knowledge of respiratory assessment, therapeutic interventions, and mechanical ventilation.
Strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in emergency situations and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Nice To Haves

Six months to one year of clinical respiratory therapy experience.
Experience with mechanical ventilation and critical care respiratory services.
Experience performing arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary function testing.
Experience in an inpatient hospital or rehabilitation setting.

Responsibilities

Assess patients' cardiopulmonary status and obtain clinical data to support treatment planning.
Perform diagnostic procedures including arterial blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized respiratory care plans in collaboration with physicians and the healthcare team.
Administer respiratory therapies including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, airway clearance techniques, suctioning, and respiratory medications.
Operate, monitor, and manage mechanical ventilators, including Pressure Control, Volume Control, BiPAP, and CPAP.
Perform airway management procedures, including tracheostomy care and artificial airway management.
Respond to emergency situations and participate in life support activities, including CPR, artificial ventilation, and emergency respiratory interventions.
Monitor patient response to treatment and modify therapy within established protocols and physician orders.
Safely transport patients requiring ventilatory support throughout the hospital.
Inspect, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.
Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and staff on respiratory treatments and equipment.
Participate in physician rounds and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.
Assist with orientation and training of new respiratory care personnel.
Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and share on-call responsibilities as assigned.
