This role is for a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) who will be responsible for obtaining and verifying physician orders for therapy, reviewing medical records, assessing patients, and administering therapeutic treatments. The RRT will also evaluate patient response to treatment, educate patients and families, maintain alarms, communicate with healthcare personnel, administer medications, and document all aspects of patient care and education.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Care Program (required)
  • RCP – Respiratory Care Practitioner (required)
  • RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist (required)
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support required prior to independent patient care
  • NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required within 90 days)
  • NRPA – Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required within 90 days)

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience in Med/Surg or Critical Care (preferred)
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining/verifying physician order for therapy and validate for appropriateness
  • Reviewing available medical records and obtaining pertinent medical history from patient or family
  • Evaluating each patient using age and diagnosing appropriate assessment tests and measurement
  • Using therapeutic treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and desire for treatment
  • Determining patient response to treatment and evaluating progress (reassessment)
  • Educating patient and family through instruction, demonstration, or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, and home programs/self-management
  • Maintaining bedside and ventilator alarms in audible position
  • Communicating with physicians and other healthcare personnel as appropriate regarding patient care issues
  • Administering medication in a safe/correct manner, adhering to medication administration guidelines
  • Documenting aspects of each treatment session in accordance with departmental, JCAHO, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines
  • Documenting assessments of education needs, education provided, and patient understanding of education provided in accordance with departmental, JCAHO, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines
