About The Position

Banner Health is hiring a Registered Respiratory Therapist for Banner University Medical Center Tucson - South Campus. The position independently provides respiratory care and pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing to patients in a variety of healthcare settings. The department emphasizes teamwork and collaboration and offers opportunities to cross-train in critical care areas and Banner University Medical Center Tucson ICUs, support both campuses as needed, interact with medical students, and assist with academic studies.

The position is described as part-time and involves 24 hours per week on the night shift, with four weekend shifts required per schedule period. Requirements

• Associate or technical degree.
• Proof of having passed the National Board for Respiratory Care examination as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
• Current license in the state of practice as required by state law.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Knowledge of clinical techniques, applications, and equipment typically obtained through one year of clinical experience.
• Highly effective interpersonal skills to interface with patients, families, staff, and other healthcare personnel.
• At least one year of respiratory experience to qualify for the stated $5,000 hire-on incentive.
• For Banner Registry positions: at least one year of experience in an acute-care hospital setting, including work in the specialty area as an RRT within the past 12 months.
• In the Home Care setting: valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
• For employees working for Banner Home Care AZ: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintenance of the card throughout employment.
• In Nevada, incumbents must have Blood Gas Technologist certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic modalities of respiratory care as prescribed by physicians or licensed independent practitioners and in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.
• Apply and manage mechanical ventilators in collaboration with physicians or licensed independent practitioners; recommend adjustments to improve clinical condition and patient comfort and to expedite weaning.
• Assemble, disassemble, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, clean, and adjust durable medical equipment and circuitry used to deliver respiratory care.
• Perform prescribed pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.
• Assess patients and evaluate their response to care; recommend care-plan changes, appropriate respiratory therapy, and therapy modifications as clinical conditions change.
• Document therapy accurately and completely in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.
• Communicate and collaborate with resource staff to formulate care plans, recommend therapy changes, and identify and resolve problems.
• May supervise department staff.
• Provide respiratory care and diagnostic testing in a variety of healthcare settings and may be assigned to areas throughout the system where respiratory care is needed.
