Reporting to the Manager of Assistive Technology, and under the direction of Certified Prosthetist, the Registered Prosthetic Technician is an integral member of the clinical health team that provides prosthetic care to both inpatient and outpatients. Registered technicians provide technical expertise towards evaluation, treatment planning, individualized design, custom fabrication, implementation and maintenance of limb prostheses to enhance patient mobility and/or physical function. Registered technicians work collaboratively with the inter-professional health care team and others to provide optimal prosthetic care and to assist the patient in achieving their prosthetic goals. Registered technicians work with patients daily and indirectly by contributing in the prosthetic evaluation, treatment planning, treatment implementation, re-evaluation and ongoing care. Registered technicians work closely with prosthetists to ensure the quality and integrity of prostheses provided to patients meet the physical and functional needs of the patients and their goals by ensuring the materials and components used are best evidence informed practice. Registered technicians incorporate critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication to deliver high quality care to patients.
