About The Position

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for providing safe, patient-centred nursing care to individuals receiving infusion therapies in an outpatient clinic setting. Working within the RPN scope of practice and in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards and working collaboratively with the interprofessional team, the RPN performs focused assessments, initiates and monitors intravenous infusion, administers medication, monitors patient responses to infusion treatment, identifies and responds to adverse reactions, delivers education and support to patients and families, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality care in accordance with professional standards, organizational policies, and best practice guidelines.

Requirements

  • Diploma graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing or equivalent (i.e., certificate RPN with added courses in medication administration, phlebotomy, and health assessment)
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse is required
  • Current BCLS required
  • Current ACLS
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and experience with venipuncture, IV therapy, routine infection prevention and control practices, and recognition of adverse reactions
  • Demonstrates technical ability
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication skills and teamwork
  • Demonstrates strong attention to patient and family-centred care and establishing therapeutic relationships
  • A positive work and attendance record is essential

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience with intravenous therapy, including IV initiation, medication administration, and patient monitoring, minimum 3 years experience preferred
  • Experience with infusion therapies (e.g., iron infusions, biologics, or other IV medications) is considered an asset
  • Previous experience in patient education programs
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development preferred
