Requirements

  • Current and active registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in fast-paced and challenging situations
  • Flexibility to work various shift lengths (8 or 12 hours), as required by the facility schedule
  • Able and willing to work in different units within a correctional facility based on operational and staffing needs
  • Reliability and commitment to scheduled shifts, in line with RhynoCare's attendance and cancellation policy

Nice To Haves

  • Correctional, mental health, addictions, emergency, or community nursing experience is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Conduct nursing assessments and contribute to the development and implementation of individualized care plans
  • Provide direct nursing care, including medication administration, treatments, wound care, chronic disease management, and health monitoring
  • Observe, assess, and document changes in patients' physical and mental health status, reporting concerns to the appropriate healthcare provider
  • Respond to medical concerns and emergencies within the institution and provide care within the RPN scope of practice
  • Perform triage for routine and urgent healthcare requests and communicate findings to the healthcare team
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential health records, documentation, and reporting
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, mental health staff, and correctional officers to ensure coordinated patient care
  • Provide health teaching related to medications, chronic conditions, harm reduction, wellness, and self-care
  • Follow infection prevention and control (IPAC) practices and organizational policies and procedures
  • Support patient safety, dignity, and continuity of care while maintaining awareness of security protocols within the correctional environment
  • Work within the standards of practice established by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
