About The Position

Trillium Health Partners (THP) is one of Canada’s largest community-based teaching hospitals, serving the growing and diverse populations of Mississauga, West Toronto, and surrounding communities. The 2C Cardiology unit is a 50-bed inpatient, acute care unit that supports a wide variety of complex cardiac patients, working closely with the Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Short Stay, and Coronary Care Unit. The unit primarily focuses on medical management and minimally invasive procedures, and also supports off-service patients with telemetry needs. The team consists of skilled, interdisciplinary professionals dedicated to providing the best possible care.

Requirements

  • Diploma graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing or equivalent (i.e. certificate RPN with added course in medication administration, phlebotomy and health assessment)
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO
  • Current BCLS
  • Successfully completed the Coronary Care 1 course or committed to completing the course within the next six months
  • Minimum of 1-year acute care medicine/cardiac experience required
  • A physical assessment course required
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge with EPIC and computer skills preferred
  • A positive work and attendance record is essential

Nice To Haves

  • Telemetry experience preferred
  • Recent experience with inpatient cardiology population preferred
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) completion preferred
  • Evidence of on-going professional development

Responsibilities

  • Initiation and maintenance of IV therapy
  • Administration of medication above the drip chamber
  • Blood and blood product administration
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Nasogastric tubes
  • Wound management skills
  • Routine and additional infection control precautions
  • Caring for patients with normal and abnormal lab values
  • Providing and delivering patients and families with educational teaching
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication skills and interprofessional teamwork
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to facilitate patient and family-centred care and establish therapeutic relationships
