About The Position

Trillium Health Partners (THP) is one of Canada’s largest community-based teaching hospitals, serving the growing and diverse populations of Mississauga, West Toronto, and surrounding communities. The 2C Cardiology unit is a 50-bed inpatient, acute care unit that supports a wide variety of complex cardiology patients, working closely with the Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Short Stay, and Coronary Care Unit. The unit primarily focuses on medical management and minimally invasive procedures, and is also the primary home for post-surgical care for THP's Vascular Surgery population. The team consists of skilled, interdisciplinary professionals dedicated to providing the best possible patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized College or School of Nursing.
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO.
  • Current BCLS.
  • Successfully completed the Coronary Care 1 course or committed to completing the course within the next six months.
  • Minimum of 1-year acute care medicine/cardiac/surgical experience required.
  • A physical assessment course required.
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication skills and interprofessional teamwork.
  • A positive work and attendance record is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably hold a Baccalaureate degree.
  • Telemetry experience preferred.
  • Recent experience with inpatient cardiology or cardiac surgery population preferred.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) completion preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge with EPIC and computer skills preferred.
  • Evidence of on-going professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for complex cardiology patients.
  • Collaborate with Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Short Stay, and Coronary Care Unit.
  • Focus on medical management and minimally invasive procedures.
  • Provide post-surgical care for Vascular Surgery patients.
  • Initiate and maintain IV therapy.
  • Administer medication.
  • Administer blood and blood products.
  • Monitor blood glucose.
  • Manage nasogastric tubes.
  • Perform wound management.
  • Implement routine and additional infection control precautions.
  • Monitor normal and abnormal lab values.
  • Provide and deliver patient and family education.
  • Facilitate patient and family-centered care.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
