About The Position

The 4B Munk team offers care to Cardiology, Cardiovascular surgery, and EP patient populations. Patients admitted to this unit have a variety of care needs including: interventional procedures that require a shorter hospital stay, or cardiovascular and/or vascular surgical procedures as inpatients. The culture on the Unit includes daily interprofessional teamwork and supports individual nurse’s professional development, as well as offers opportunities to develop excellent critical thinking and decision making skills. As part of a diverse interprofessional team, nurses require knowledge, experience and skills within cardiology, cardiovascular and vascular surgery clinical fields. These include but are not limited to: arrhythmia interpretation, telemetry monitoring, removal of radial clamps and/or femoral sheaths post-procedure, and postoperative care: chest tubes care, temporary pacemaker care, etc.

Requirements

  • Completion of college, or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program including practicum experience
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
  • Current medication certificate which meets the standards of practice established by the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Demonstrates competencies as per unit/program competency-based checklist
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
  • Able to comply with the physical demands of the Unit
  • Evidence of continuing education
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with evidence of strong organizational and decision making skills
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication and time management skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
  • Good computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • Recent experience working with adult acute care Surgical patients preferred
