About The Position

As a member of our inter-professional team, you will work closely with Plastic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Technologists, the Fracture Clinic, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Wound Care Nurses in providing patient care within the Plastic Clinic. As a member of this team, you will also work collaboratively with General Surgeons, and Ophthalmologists to provide patient care within the Minor Surgery Clinic. You will utilize your clinical assessment, patient teaching communication, critical thinking and leadership skills in this fast-paced environment where our focus is patient/family centered care, evidence based practice and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Certificate in Practical nursing required
  • Post graduate certificates in aseptic procedures (Perioperative Certificate), physical assessment and medications is required
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience working in an operating room setting as a scrub nurse
  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience, within the past year, in an ambulatory care setting including Plastics, Fracture and minor procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic technique, completion of an operating room course
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of suture removal, dressing changes and assisting with minor procedures is required
  • Demonstrated excellent physical assessment skills
  • Ability to critically think, problem solve and function in a fast paced clinic environment
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to a patient/family centred care environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently
  • Well developed organization, communication, interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards

Responsibilities

  • Providing patient care within the Plastic Clinic, working closely with Plastic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Technologists, the Fracture Clinic, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Wound Care Nurses.
  • Collaborating with General Surgeons and Ophthalmologists to provide patient care within the Minor Surgery Clinic.

  • Assisting with start up of a new clinic.
  • Acting as a resource and role model.
  • Demonstrating commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
