About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Surgery and Ambulatory Care, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Surgeons with specific procedures. The successful candidate will work with the surgeons to perform treatments on patients with musculoskeletal conditions and will assist the surgeons in performing their duties in an outpatient setting. The candidate will be required to work collaboratively with other team members including physiotherapist and ortho tech in delivering high quality outpatient orthopedic services.

Requirements

  • Diploma prepared Registered Practical Nurse or proof of upgraded equivalent skills
  • Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
  • Competent to perform CPR at a basic Cardiac Life Support level
  • Minimum 3 years of orthopedic surgical experience
  • Experience with patient teaching particularly with orthopedic and other surgical patients
  • Recent experience in assisting in minor treatments for plastics and orthopedics surgery
  • Knowledge and experience in interpreting blood work
  • Strong clinical assessment and Pharmacology
  • Ability to use investigative assessment to identify health conditions
  • Broad based understanding of medicine and surgical interventions
  • Competency in sterile technique and use of surgical equipment and instruments
  • Competency in wound therapies
  • Competency in obtaining and labelling pathology and other lab specimens
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
