About The Position

CHEO is seeking Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) or Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) who are within twelve (12) months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and have not previously worked as a nurse in Ontario, to participate in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) Program. This program, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, is designed to support new nurses in their transition into practice, improve their integration into the workforce, promote full-time employment opportunities, and support health workforce planning. CHEO, a global leader in pediatric health, offers a robust orientation program, including 450 hours of orientation within 12 weeks with classroom education and precepted shifts. Participation in the NGG program is competitive due to limited funded positions.

Requirements

• Registered Practical Nurses (RPN)’s or Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) who are within twelve (12) months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and who have not previously worked as a nurse in Ontario.
• Graduated in Canada with diploma in Nursing from an accredited academic institution. OR Completed their nursing education outside of Canada
• Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within twelve (12) months of registering with the CNO
• Have not been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six (6) months prior to participating in the NGG program
• Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer (CHEO) for a minimum of six (6) months after completing the NGG program transition into practice period
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) (Essential)
• Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills in English (Essential)

• Excellent organizational and time management skills (Essential)
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team (Essential)
• Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and carry out written and verbal instructions (Essential)

• Ability to respond to physical demands (e.g., heavy lifts and transfers, run to codes, do restraints) (Essential)
• Basic knowledge of performing vital signs, sterility and aseptic technique and established Infection Control and Occupational Health and Safety practices (Essential)
• Shifts include evening, weekend, overnights and holiday work (Essential)
• Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) and remain compliant (Essential)

Nice To Haves

• Successfully completed a recent pediatric clinical placement at CHEO or other organization (Preferred)
• Bilingual (English/ French) (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• As a new graduate transitioning into practice, during the 12-week orientation and training program, incumbents will receive invaluable coaching, feedback and mentorship in a clinical setting while performing in the scope of the RPN role and supporting patient care.
