This position is part of the Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) Program, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, designed to support newly graduated Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), as well as Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) transitioning into practice in Ontario. The program aims to provide support, improve integration into the workforce, promote full-time employment, and aid in health workforce planning.

Requirements

• Canadian-educated Registered Nurses (RNs) or Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) who are within twelve (12) months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and who have not previously worked as a nurse in Ontario.
• Graduated in Canada with a BA or BScN in Nursing from an accredited academic institution OR completed their nursing education outside of Canada.
• Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within twelve (12) months of registering with the CNO.
• Not been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six (6) months prior to participating in the NGG program.
• Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer (CHEO) for a minimum of six (6) months after completing the NGG program transition into practice period.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) (Essential).
• Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills in English (Essential).
• Family-centered approach (Essential).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (Essential).
• Excellent organizational and time management skills (Essential).
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team (Essential).
• Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and carry out written and verbal instructions (Essential).
• Effective communication skills to provide ongoing support and care for diverse patients and communicate any concerns, changes in the patient’s condition (Essential).
• Ability to respond to physical demands (e.g., heavy lifts and transfers, run to codes, do restraints) (Essential).
• Basic knowledge of performing vital signs, sterility and aseptic technique and established Infection Control and Occupational Health and Safety practices (Essential).
• Shifts include evening, weekend, overnights and holiday work (Essential).
• Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) and remain compliant (Essential).

Nice To Haves

• Successfully completed a recent pediatric clinical placement at CHEO or other organization (Preferred).
• Bilingual (English/ French) (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• Receive invaluable coaching, feedback, and mentorship in a clinical setting during a 12-week orientation and training program.
• Perform in the scope of the RN role and support patient care.
• Provide ongoing support and care for diverse patients.
• Communicate any concerns or changes in patient condition.
