About The Position

The Registered Practical Nurse promotes, protects, and supports the health of individuals, families, and communities through evidence‑informed public health nursing practice. Serving clients, community partners, and interprofessional teams, the role applies public health and nursing principles to prevent disease, identify health risks, and improve population health outcomes. Guided by provincial standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements, the RPN delivers assessment, education, intervention, and case management services. Through collaborative practice and community engagement, the RPN helps reduce health inequities and enhances access to essential health resources across Windsor and Essex County.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited Ontario college
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
  • Previous experience working as a Registered Practical Nurse is a requirement
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Public Health Standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, collaboration tools, and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella and varicella through immunization records or blood work
  • Provide a two-step Mantoux tuberculin skin test or one-step Interferon Gamma Release Assay test PRIOR to employment start.
  • A Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) or a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) will be required as a condition of employment.
  • Must reside within the province of Ontario and must be available to attend the office upon request.

Responsibilities

  • Use practice standards to conduct assessments of individuals and families to identify health needs, determine a plan identify appropriate nursing intervention, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Provide therapeutic client-centred care maintaining professional boundaries while using trauma and violence-informed principles, harm reduction, and cultural safety.
  • Investigate health hazards and communicable disease concerns within the community.
  • Educate and counsel clients to promote health and prevent disease.
  • Build partnerships with community agencies to address emerging and ongoing public health issues.
  • Assist in developing and communicating policies and plans that support community health.
  • Manage client caseloads, including coordination of services across agencies and programs.
  • Support enforcement of public health laws and regulations under the direction of the Medical Officer of Health.
  • Assist with the development of, and implement medical directives as required by the Medical Officer of Health.
  • Link clients and communities with appropriate resources and services to improve health outcomes.
  • Lead or contribute to staff training, student education, and professional development activities.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with professional standards.
  • Review and apply evidence‑based practices to inform care and program delivery.
  • Promote health equity and address social determinants of health in all service interactions.
  • Collaborate effectively within interprofessional teams to support integrated public health services.
