About The Position

The Float Team nurse plays a crucial role in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for individual patients and families. This position offers an opportunity to develop a broad range of pediatric skills by covering various hospital units for immediate needs or longer-term vacancies. The Float Team nurse practices according to the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and CHEO's policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Medication administration course
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles of safe medication administration and reconciliation and the ability to practice this in a clinical setting
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to participate as an active member of the health-care team
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in an oral and a written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrates an understanding and a willingness to participate in self-evaluation
  • Demonstrates the ability to participate in patient teaching
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous Quality Improvement
  • Demonstrates an understanding of aseptic technique and an ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a college program in Practical Nursing
  • Minimum two (2) years of Pediatric experience
  • Bilingualism (English/French)

Responsibilities

  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for individual patients/families.
  • Covering "just in time" needs or longer-term vacancies throughout the hospital.
  • Practicing according to the standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Complying with CHEO’s policies and procedures.
