A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., or PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician. The role involves collecting, analyzing, and integrating patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs, preparing and calibrating equipment, applying electrodes and sensors, performing physiologic calibrations, fitting positive airway pressure (PAP) masks, and following procedural protocols for various sleep studies. The technologist will monitor polysomnographic data acquisition, document observations, and implement appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic needs. This position requires the ability to provide age-specific care and perform difficult or unusual procedures. Scoring of sleep/wake stages and clinical events, and generating accurate reports are also key responsibilities.
